How is the Compost Bucket supported on the Kitchen Compost Caddy rack?

Answer

The compost bucket slides onto the Kitchen Compost Caddy cabinet mounting rack and is fully supported in two places: beneath the bucket by our “V” shaped bottom support (this supports the weight within the compost bucket) & from the back of the compost bucket (support tabs affix the bucket to the main horizontal support of our cabinet mounting rack). All three points fully support the bucket and isolate movement when the cabinet door is opened or closed

My cabinet doors are fairly thin. How big are the mounting screws that come with the Kitchen Compost Caddy?

The (2) mounting screws that come with each Kitchen Compost Caddy rack are 1/2″ in length. Typically cabinet door outer frames (where you mount the Kitchen Compost Caddy rack) are 3/4″ thick.

Does the Kitchen Compost Caddy compost bucket remove easily from the Kitchen Compost Caddy Cabinet Mounting Rack?

The compost bucket can easily be removed from the Kitchen Compost Caddy rack by sliding it upwards and off the Kitchen Compost Caddy rack for ease of cleaning or emptying. To replace the compost bucket, slide the compost bucket back over the mounting tabs located on the upper bracket support while the bottom of the bucket drops effortlessly into the “V” shaped bottom support located at the bottom of our Kitchen Compost Caddy rack system.

Having a vented lid on your compost bucket, allows the heat and moisture that accumulates in the container to escape through the vented holes as the food waste begins to decompose. A vented compost bucket goes a long way towards keeping both the food waste within your bucket, and the compost bucket dry, minimizing odor.


What is the purpose of the Activated Carbon Filters mounted to the lid on your Vented Compost Bucket?

Our activated carbon filters installed on the vented lid of our Kitchen Compost Caddy Compost bucket minimize odor coming from food waste within the bucket. Both the vented lid and the Activated Carbon Filters work fantastic together to minimize moisture, mold, and odor within the Vented Compost Bucket.


How long do the Activated Carbon Filters last? Can they be rinsed out?

Our Activated Carbon Filters last typically anywhere from 6-9 months. They can be rinsed and left to air dry. Note: Rinsing and cleaning multiple times will diminish their ability to absorb odors effectiveness over time.

How do I clean my Kitchen Compost Caddy Vented Compost Bucket?

The best way to minimize cleanup on your Vented Compost Bucket is to use our BioBag 3 gallon compostable bags to line it with. Also some of our customers choose to line our Vented Compost Bucket with newspapers, or paper grocery bags. Our Vented Compost Bucket is dishwasher safe, although not recommended as the heat involved in the drying cycle can distort the compost bucket shape.


How is the Activated Carbon Filter attached to the vented lid on your compost bucket?

There are two nylon filter mounting pins that are bonded to the vented lid. The Activated Carbon Filter slides over the two nylon mounting pins and is held on by two metal washers that slide over the locking mounting pin posts.


Do you have to use the compost bags to line the caddy, or can one just choose to wash it as needed?

Answer


This choice is entirely up to the individual customer preference. Using the compost bags has the advantage of keeping the compost bucket clean.


Does the lid open when you open the cabinet door?

Answer


No it does not. Although utilizing the magnetic lid on the compost bucket which locks the lid in the open position frees your hands for plate scraping, and peeling vegetables etc.


Is the whole Kitchen Compost Caddy Cabinet Mounted Compost Bin completely made from metal? Are any of materials of construction plastic?

The Kitchen Compost Caddy Cabinet Mounting rack is made from 16 gauge steel that is professionally power coated. The Kitchen Compost Caddy Vented Compost Bucket is made from an extremely tough and structurally sound virgin plastic material. Both items are built to stand the test of time and provide years of continuous use.


Is the Kitchen Compost Caddy Vented Compost Bucket dishwasher safe?

Yes, but we recommend only washing the compost bucket base in the dishwasher. The vented lid is easily removed from the bucket base and after the Activated Carbon Filter is removed, can be washed with warm soap and water and air dried.


Does this product come with the required hardware to mount it, such as screws?

Answer


Yes, all required hardware is included in your shipment.


Will the Kitchen Compost Caddy Vented Compost Bucket keep the fruit flies out?

Answer


The compost bucket is designed with a 100% double seal between the lid and the bucket base to provide a tight snug seal while the latch on the lid locks down fully and securely. Additionally the vented holes on the bucket lid are extremely small are designed to keep fruit flies from penetrating the compost bucket. One thing to note: Often times fruit fly larvae comes into the home on surface of the fruits and vegetables we bring home from the market. So when peels contaminating with this larvae is placed in the compost bucket, many times the eggs hatch, and this is when you encounter fruit flies within your compost bucket.
